Nicholas Polias is Australian poker player who, according to the well known website Hendon Mob, has $ 82,983 in prize money in tournaments. Today, he just clearly won his biggest gain in life without playing any poker hand.
Indeed, Polias has won a $ 340,000 defamation suit.
Go back 2 years early. Nicholas Polias is firstly accused of stealing $ 2000 to his roommate, Tobin Ryall. The stealing would have occurred during a trip to Las Vegas in 2012. The money was later found and Polias was clearly innoncent.
The four accused, Ryall, Andy Hun Wei Lee, Sandy Jan and Rhys Gould also accused Polias after an Exchange problem. The problem occurred during a game of poker highstakes at the Star Casino in Sydney.
Two of the men then expressed their frustration on Facebook. Polias there had then been treated of thief by Ryan Ryall. The message was then relayed by Lee.
Polias had asked the two men to erase this erroneous message, but the poker player is denied his request.
Wanting to take drastic measures, Polias has pursued in defamation the poker players. A professional poker player's reputation is very important in its environment (which is also true in all areas) and for this reason, there should be compensation.
Ryall, Lee, Jan and Gould were sentenced respectively to pay $ 125,000, $ 130,000, $ 50,000 and $ 35,000 in damages, for a total of $ 340.00.
