To make money playing poker sit tournaments ' n go, you'll benefit to understand some of the key measures - EV and Mr. what what the EV and the M-zone and how will they help you to become a player of sit'n winner go?
Definition of the "EV".
EV means 'Expected Value' ('expected value' in french) is the average amount of the big bets that one can expect to earn from a first hand. In other words, the EV is a number computed and assigned to each first-hand, based on the amount of money that this hand will win the showdown. Numbers are based on a sample of more of a million hands played by average players. The first hands with a high EV are stronger, and hands with a low or negative EV are lower.
I provided you a Charter of the EV early on which you can refer. The sample is a simplified version that shows the average EV for each first hand. However, the current EV for each hand changes according to the position that you are in the table and the number of players remaining in the tournament.
For example, if you have QcKc in first position at a full table, the EV will be lower than if you have the same cards to the button. I have also provided a Charter which shows the EV of the first hands taking account of the position. On the other hand, this information can be difficult to use during a game. I use and recommend a tool called Tournament Indicator (indicator of tournament), which automatically shows the current EV of each hand taking into account the position of the table and the number of players.
The "M" defined
I'm not quite sure that M meant anything, but what I can tell you this is: M is a measure of your stack of chips divided by the total of the first blinds and antes. For example, if the blinds are 50 and 100 without ante (the total of the pot is of 150 at the start), and you currently have 1500 in chips, your M is 10.
(Stack of chips) / (Blinds + Antes) = M
(1500) / (50 + 100) = 10
Once you know your M, you can quickly determine your M-Zone. M - Zone is a term popularized by Dan Harrington in his book Harrington on Hold'em, Volume II. There are five M-Zones:
Green = Zone your M is 20 or more.
Yellow = Zone your M is between 10 and 20.
Orange = zone your M is between 6 and 10.
Zone red = your M is between 1 and 5.
Dead zone = your M is 1 or less.
You must keep in mind your M and that of each of your rivals. You can do this manually or use the tool in which I reference above, the Tournament Indicator which calculates and displays it for you. In the screenshot below, you can see that each first-hand QcKc EV is 0.67, and that my current M is 13.3, including me in the yellow zone.
In the lessons that follow, I will teach you how to use the EV and M to make solid decisions about the hands to play pre-flop, and how play.
