Interview PokerCollectif October 2012 with Darrrk

Please note that Darrrk interview was conducted last month. For this reason, you will need to make the adjustment when it is question of a date or a specific moment in time!

Good reading!

1 - Could you tell us about your career as a poker player? What are the milestones? We also discusses variants that you practices.

My relationship with poker has not always been the same. In fact, when I was in College, my friends liked organize portions of poker during our binge drinking. In my opinion, and I believe it still today, there is nothing worse than a card game to kill a party. Unless the party card begins with «Strip something» (talk to Prince Harry! - with whom I share the same color of hair also-). In short, once, I finally agreed to join them in play. Result: I gained. I also won the 4 following parts and I then imagined that I was a true brute Poker then I should start to play. Instantly, it was not a good idea. I lost several deposits on PartyPoker, then at Full Tilt Poker. However, after finishing in first place in the ranking of the first stage of the LTPQ and was eligible for the honour of seeing my picture published in the Royal Magazine late, I would have thought more success!

I've always had a temper and I am very bad loser, so you can imagine how this explosive cocktail could harm me in the past. I remember a particular event where I lost a satellite to FTOPS Main Event while I was conducting 9:1 in chips when the heads-ups. Legendary tilt obliges: I lost $ 300 satellites for then directly register for the tournament at $ 640. A beautiful vigil almost $ 1000 while I was working as "moppologiste" in a hospital. Short, with time I realized that I needed coaching to keep the 2-card poker game, and I decided to ask more experienced players of staking. This experience has really helped to evolve because 1) I was accountable to people, more importantly, friends; (2) I had right to coaching and excellent support to stay on top of my poker and my mental fitness; and 3) it helped me build a solid reputation in the community. Several forum members neglect this last aspect, which is very important. If one day I have problems and for xyz reasons I still need staking, I know that the community will be there to help me.

Today, this will just make 3 weeks that I play without staking and things are going very well for me. The only Variant that I play is the hold'em without pot limit in cashgames mainly. I play the NL200, sometimes earlier. I happen to play tournaments, but it makes me happy rarely less than finish first, so I try to do the least possible in order to preserve my sanity.

2 - that you didn't initially relatively Poker, you know now, but you would have liked knowing well before or that you would have liked to learn before?

At the beginning, I played without software compilation of hands and HUD and I've had very little success. I am aware that most of the members of the forum uses such software, but for those who do not yet, it is essential today if you want to win at poker. For me, c' has made a huge difference! I have a very aggressive playing style and I have to rely on software that gives me statistics in real time on the trends of my opponents to exploit to the maximum. Without it, I lost a good portion of my "edge". Moreover, it is necessary not only to use such software, but should also use good statistics, understand and know how to analyse them in each context. In my opinion, any player who seeks coaching currently should begin with a meeting of development on Hold'em Manager or Poker Tracker.

3 - What your routine as a poker player looks and how do you do to keep you at the top of your form (consider your game, read books, watch videos from strategy?)

I did not really routine as a poker player, I make sure only to have eaten and be rested before starting a session. I sometimes hands revises before or after you have played, but I must confess that I am very lazy in general with my poker (or say only that I play when I really taste to play, question of having my A game on the tables). For example, my hands in 1 month record is 35 000 only and it dates back to may 2012. I quietly starts to become a real grinder since I should Eclipse this mark this month ci (August) with some 40,000 hands. A big thanks to the PokerStars Zoom to allow me to play a maximum of hands in relatively short time!

At the theoretical level, I have always loved to learn by myself in order to keep a fresh look at the game. In my opinion, poker is a game of reflection and must be primarily developed his own "thinking process" rather than take such line "because his takechip Idol would have played it like this [-pato lucas]. In short, I already tried to read a book, that of Sklansky on NL Hold'em ' em and I stopped after 60 pages; I have never listened to a video of my life poker strategy; and I had a big 4 h coaching in my career. That said it was 4 h the most beneficial of my life with two of the best players on PC, in my opinion. It was easily worth $ 1000 + and I understands why some want more help new players or requires a very high rate: it is possible to return quickly to his money and makes less as in poker for the current regular ecosystem.

4 - Do you have links with the Quebec poker community? Do you have the farewell interesting to tell us about your friendships?

I must be very grateful to PokerCollectif, because many of its members today are now good friends. I am thinking my BFF GabyGaby SIM with whom I started playing more seriously in poker, to bankroll nit, Blacklist_77 Street.Light (in fact, this is not really my friend... I do pretend question to date his sister), Sherbrooke gang (jayggins, MarKe, ImNotBob, RocketPiquette, pjamez), lil_gaz, and so on. I have several stories that I could tell you on evenings between members of PC, but I'll abstain en...

5 - What are your plans in the short and medium term concerning poker? Do you intend to continue to play long? Do you have dreams about poker?

I have 25 years and I currently completing my Masters in finance. I'll also get a CPA - CGA accounting designation in November, briefly say that this isn't the possibilities that are missing. For my career, it would be preferable that I enter on the labour market immediately and that is what I will probably do. I say probably, because I'm in no hurry to find a job with poker which allows me to live properly. That said, I can't see myself not playing poker professionally: I love the game, I like to travel, but I become quickly jaded to play alone in front my computer several hours per day. I would like to continue to play there part time until it either couldn't pay for me.

I share the same dreams as not all members of PC for poker. Obviously, I would like to win a WSOP bracelet or "binker in the 6 figures" like our good friend DMI dream. On the other hand, I am no illusions over it: maybe I did never reach the Summit, but this will not unhappy for so many to me. I just enjoy the joys that can bring me the poker every day: a very large freedom, meeting new people, traveling, etc.

The game must remain a game!
