The PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network are back online after hackers slammed the online services with distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks yesterday.
Sony wrote on their blog that they have voluntarily closed networks after the start of the attacks. The company adds that there is no evidence that hackers had access to the personal information of users.
Following the attack, Sony said that the PSN and SEN will not have their maintenance periods scheduled for today August 25. "We will provide an update shortly to know when the maintenance will be postponed," said Sony.
Yesterday, several internet web sites linked to the gaming were attacked by DDoS, making their services inaccessible to millions of players. This is the case of the Sony service, but Blizzard servers, League of Legends, Path of Exile, Dota 2 and Xbox Live were also targeted by these pirates.
The same group of pirates would have also claimed responsibility for the bomb alert that caused an American Airlines flight to stay on the ground and divert a flight carrying John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment. The FBI is investigating the case.
