The regulatory authority of the games online in France (ARJEL) has just published its review of third quarter of 2011 on the State of poker online in France. Obviously, some of these statistics are a little strange (the amount of money wagered in online cash game for example as an index of the economic health of poker), but it is interesting to look at the portrait of the overall health of the poker in France.
Gross product of poker only increased by 36% compared to the last balance sheet. On the other hand, even if the figure of gross product is higher than that of the latest balance sheet, it remains lower than the fourth quarter of 2010.
According to the ARJEL, the tournaments have gained in popularity. In the third quarter of last year, 151 M euro had spent in law of entries for online tournaments. In the last quarter of 2011, this figure rose to 286 million euros, an increase of 89%.
As for other statistics, 150 M euros have bet every week on the tables of cash games (hard to know how this figure is calculated, but good). Concerning entries for tournaments, 20 M euro per week is spent to participate. French online poker players are reasonable: 46% of the players bet less than €30 per month in tournament and 44% of gamers rely less than €100 per month in cash games.
What is the frequency of game players? The ARJEL says:
"The number of active players accounts weekly and fluctuated during the 3rd quarter of between 250 000 and 300 000. This population has been growing throughout the 2010 year, then decrease irregularly until the end of the 3rd quarter of 2011. During the 3rd quarter 2011, 60% of the active players accounts conducted an action game in cash game at least once, compared with 80% who participated in at least one tournament. 275 000 comptes‐joueurs have been active weekly in Q3 2011 ".
The owners of poker rooms know; It is with his regular players of money and much less with recreational players or casual players. And this statistic is once again here confirmed by the ARJEL since in his last record, there is only 1% of players (the 1% includes the largest regular sites) generate 60% of all weekly in cash game and 1% of tournament (once again here, the largest regular) players generate 36% of entries in tournaments fees. In short, these are regulars who are the greatest generators of rakes.
We also learn that the majority of gamers (76%) were between 18 and 35 years and that 10% of them using a mobile device (smart phone, iPad, iPod Touch, etc.) to play poker online.
If the masculine is used in this article without reference to the feminine, is that the majority of people who play poker online are (surprise!) men. In fact, 89% of the poker accounts are opened by men.
