In September 2011, the Poker Players Alliance launched a petition which was designed to legalize and regulate online poker in the United States. Remember that the Poker Player Alliance is a group of Americans with non-profit interests that promote poker and attempting to protect the rights of poker players. To date, the PPA has more than 600,000 members.
The White House responded to this petition recently in the pen of Brian Deese, Deputy Director of the National Economic Council. According to Mr Deese, online poker must continue to be regulated State by State. Here is the official release from the White House to translate:
"The administration realizes that many Americans play playing poker online for real money real. '' Online betting on sports events or competitions violate federal law. The legality of other forms of online games depends on the laws of the States in which players or online games operators are domiciled. It is for each State to decide whether or not it wishes to permit such activities to its residents and online poker operators authorised by these States to accept such players. But unauthorized online games by State laws may also violate federal statutes.
Fast and anonymous nature of the Internet distinguished games online games hard, such as those in casinos, and creates distinct challenges.
For example, there are many ways to get around the restrictions on online game technology which can allow individuals from countries where gambling is illegal – or even minors - playing using the real currency.
Online games also have a greater potential for fraud, as gaming sites are much cheaper and easier to implement than on casinos, and like telemarketing fraud, can appear and disappear from one day to the next.
Finally, the online game can be used in whitening due to the volume, the scope of speed, anonymity and mechanisms international made possible by transactions on the Internet.
The Administration will continue to review this issue and is open to solutions that would help to counter the use of sites online for illegal purposes. »
To read these remarks by the White House, this is certainly not tomorrow the day before that online poker will become legal in the United States.
