Dealers on strike in Montreal and Lac-Leamy casinos

MONTREAL, 20 July 2014/CNW Telbec / -Montréal and Lac-Leamy casino gaming tables will be not animated by dealers from 6 o'clock tomorrow morning, for 24 hours. Workers will take part in a study day to agree on a strategy to address the stalemate in their negotiations with the employer, Loto-Québec.

"Loto-Québec plays with the rights of workers: management does not want to negotiate. '' On Monday, all dealers will go to a special meeting to discuss next steps to take. Dealers rely on pressure tactics to advance talks that have stalled for too long,"explained Jean-Pierre Proulx, Union Advisor in CUPE.

Dealers are without work's contract since March, 2013. Trade unions of the two casinos dealers want some intensive and serious negotiation.

"We are aware that the summer is the high season for the casinos, but the only ones who are to blame for this unpleasant situation are the Loto Québec Executive," added the Union Advisor.

750 dealers of the Casino de Montréal have voted for means of pressure up to the strike on May 28, while 350 of the Casino du Lac-Leamy dealers took the same vote on 10 June.
With over 111,000 members in Quebec, CUPE represents approximately 3500 members in Quebec government agencies and Crown corporations. CUPE is present in the following sectors: Social Affairs, communications, education, universities, energy, municipalities, urban and air transport, as well as the mixed sector.
