Interview with Antoine Bérubé, better known as Tiltman. Tiltman plays under the name "RolandThetrault " on FullTilt Poker and 'Negrovente1 ' on PokerStars , in addition to being a regular winner on PartyPoker .In addition to being an excellent poker player, Antoine is one of the best players of chess in Quebec.
1. Although you are quite known on the forum, would you have 2 words of presentation on you?
I started to play poker in 2006. At the time, I was an ordinary player. I started playing poker because one of my friends player of chess. He told me quickly game. I have consulted some books and I started to play. I must say that at the beginning, I had no great interest in poker. I liked better chess. I started to play Limit hold ' em 0.25 - $0.50 and 0.50-$1. I was a break even player. Then I tried the No limit Hold'em. I was a player break even for a while. I tiltait not bad. I then lost everything. During 2-3 months where I had more money to play, I decided to seriously study the game. I have read a few books, the Twoplustwo forums and I also much raile high stakes in real-time games. Then, I made a deposit of $ 500. I started to play the try. In 3 months, I played the NL400. I was no longer the same player.
2. what difference do you see between the good winners with cash games of 2010 and the good winners of 2007 for example?
The game has much evolved. Players are more aware of their image, the image of the other players. There are also discussion forums that help players, videos of strategy sites. Players think later today, they make fewer mistakes. The edges of the good players in 2010 are smaller and therefore less senior winrates.
3 How do you work your game? Are you routines? Doubts you a few times it?
I see hands. I discussed some hand with friends. Watching parts of high limits and I try to understand the reasoning of each player. I also read lots of hands on twoplustwo. Today, even if I still talk on the occasion of hands with friends, I almost just think in the most difficult hands that I played and I get myself to a conclusion.
4 I already saw you play on NL2000, NL1000 and NL5000 tables with several good regular. If you play these decent regular, it is that you think you have an advantage over them. According to you, without revealing your secrets, what is the quality you have and what these players do not have?
I don't think I have a huge edge it on other players. My basic game is very good, what is essential. One of my great strengths is almost always have an excellent feel on the flow of the game, it's for what I'm trying to play when I'm in a good state of mind. It often results in questions of timing and I think I have a good edge on several good regs in this area. I'm trying to understand in what state of mind such and such player is at such time of the game. It's more these points which are important rendering these limits because players do not so much of big mistakes. Y' has a lot more psychology also.
5 do you have a healthy life as a poker pro? On a poker table you need your head and being tired, hungry, to be stressed or have evil to the head can affect your game. Do you have any rules about it?
I play in conditions most of the time. Many people talk about not playing drunk or frozen. But I believe that one of the worst enemies for a poker player is fatigue. My game will be better frozen than tired if I can make this comparison. I try to not be swayed by my results in the short term. Days, I started a session and nothing is going as I want; suckout after suckout. These day, I close my comp and I take a step back. I come back to play when I clear mind. I know that some player hate out of a losing session, but me it doesn't bother me. When things go wrong, I left instead of tilt. When it's going well and that I own the game, I continue to play, often for very long hours.
6 do you think that coaches seen on BlueFire, Cardrunners, Leggo, etc, are 100% honest and integrate? Several coaches might want to teach only a small part of their knowledge. After all, why make the best competition? If I ask you the question, it is that to my knowledge, you don't want to coach no player.
Strategy videos are in my opinion contrary to the spirit of poker. The goal in poker is to win the most money possible. I know several coaches do a good job and I believe they are 100% integrated. For my part, I do not think that I am a good coach. Sometimes I Express not always clearly my ideas. Good poker player does not necessarily mean good poker coach. I discuss poker with some friend and I try to help them, but I do not want to become a coach, I'm not interested.
7 If you could also be handsome man as a member of PokerCollectif, which would it be?
Surely Spexel.
8 If you were instead of Jonathan Duhamel and you finished 1st in November, would you take your retirement? If Yes, what would you do?
I'd surely take my retirement. I would have probably less interest in playing. Even now, I find that I have less interest than before. I would do something else. I would like to improve my game in chess, I would like to travel. I do not see poker as an end in itself, but as a way to make money, to have a better life.
Thanks much to you Antoine for having taken the time to answer my questions!
No problem, it made me happy!
