According to an article published on PokerFuse, (the most important of Russia) Beeline provider decided to block access to its customers at the PokerStars.com site. The given reason is a Russian Supreme Court jurisprudence dating from 2012.
Before 2012, poker had a status in Russia since it was recognized as a set of skills primarily. But the decision between the Pvosk area vendor Internet Rostelecom has changed the situation. To clarify, here are the words of the law firm of Baker & Mckenzie:
"The supreme court ruled that it is illegal to broadcast information which is prohibited under Russian law, including, but without limitation, on the games. The tribunal also concluded that the provision of access to prohibited information is equivalent to the dissemination of this information. The Court therefore concluded that the telecommunications company has de facto diffuse information prohibited by giving access to web sites containing such information"
Following this judgment, Internet providers have a responsibility to block certain content to their customers under penalty to remove their license to operate.
Vendor Internet Beeline has decided to block access to the largest online PokerStars poker room.
