Loto-Quebec could legalize other poker sites

This is at least what we learn this morning in the Post Huggington by the pen of Patrick Bellerose who met with Marie-Claude Rivet, spokesman at Loto-Québec.

In the words of Ms. Rivet: "in respect of the Canadian Criminal Code, we are now looking to see if it would not alternatives for us."

Loto-Québec, which recorded declines of profits of 10.5% in 2013, is seeking other means to be profitable.

According to Marie-Claude Rivet, agreements could be "contract" with the main sites (Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars) that it describes as illegal. Thus, sites could operate legally, make profits and Loto-Québec empocherait as its share of the cake.

Mrs Rivet does not fail to point out that Espacejeux is the only site in online poker in Quebec to operate within the law. Then she adds: "it is very difficult for Loto-Québec to channel the game online offer in a significant proportion.

In all likelihood, Amaya who bought PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker last week might be the first to take advantage of such a license.

Talks are already underway between Loto-Québec and Amaya, even if they are in their "infancy" said Mrs Rivet.

Amazing new when you consider that less than a year ago, some tops placed with Loto-Québec wanted to stop 'illegal' poker in Quebec and banish these same sites of Quebec (PokerStars, Full Tilt, etc).
