In an interview with PokerListings, Daniel Cates says that Tom Dwan's debt is already more than $300,000 (in penalties). The two players who started the "durrrr challenge" 4 years ago, still have not finished this commitment.
After discussing with Dwan, Cates was heard penalties for each 2 months of inactivity. In other words, every 2 months which would pass where no hand is played, Dwan should pay $40,000 to Cates and $10,000 would be added to every 2 months. So, after 2 months, $40,000, after 4 months, $40,000 + $40,000 + $10,000 and after 6 months $40,000 + $40,000 + $40,000 + $10,000$ + $10,000.
With these penalties, Cates evalue that Dwan owes him more than $300,000.
In October 2013, some hands were played between the two protagonists and Cates did solidify his lead. In this regard, "jungleman12" comments: "Tom Dwan is uncooperative and unresponsive to calls and messages. I have a feeling that it will not complete the challenge, for a number of reasons that I do not wish to reveal today. In any case I am not enchanted by everything I hear about him."
According to Cates which is in advance of 1. 5M$, "durrrr" Dwan no longer wants to play and even if he wanted to play, he could not win. According to his words, he is "drawing dead". He says: "I just want to play, or he could pays to get out of the challenge. But even that, he will not do it. And anyway I don't think he can."
Even if Tom Dwan owes him a lot of money, it did not prevent Cates to make another bet with him last summer. Cates has bet against Dwan when playing heads up against a machine at the Bellagio. The bet of $400,000 was won by Dwan which will therefore be able to deduct this amount to his debt.
In conclusion, less than half of the 50,000 hands planned to this challenge have been played.
