The announcement yesterday of EA Access, a program a bit like Netflix for Xbox One, which allows you to pay $5 per month for unlimited access to a library of games from Electronic Arts, drew some surprise because it was confirmed for the Microsoft console only. Some believed an exclusivity as the relationship between EA and Microsoft is no longer a secret, but Sony would have reviewed the program and refused, because the company estimated that it did not offer good value.
"We don't think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer."
According to Sony, PlayStation fans are more interested in subscription plans that provide access to a wide range of services, unlike EA Access, which proposes only Electronic Arts games. "PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price", said a representative.
We can doubt the value of EA Access that offers dating games at $5 per month or $30 annually. For this price, you get unlimited access to games included in what EA calls "The Vault", as well as reductions on digital downlaod from EA games content and access to the games to come five days before their release date (if purchased, of course). EA access is currently in beta version and the current collection of games includes FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Battlefield 4, and Peggle 2.
