You play in a tournament Hold'em No-limit (NLH). In early position, you receive A - A or K - K. Should you open with a bet or "limp"?

This has been a continuing debate with several of my poker player friends. They swear all that limp is a superior strategy and that it has served them well. Usually I always prefer open building and occasionally to vary my game in limp. However, since I am the only dissident, j started to reconsider my position. To unravel everything, let's examine the arguments for each.

Please note that in my arguments I recommend the limpage only if this creates opportunity d l a raise 'pre flop. Stubbornly, I refuse to believe that limp with ACEs or Kings may be correct when this allows the big blind to see a flop for free. I believe simply that too much of money is lost by players (including myself) that allow l opponent to make his hand on the flop cheaply. They can withdraw with their big pair, even when the action post-flop dictates what she may no longer be good.

Arguments for limp

1. If the one of the players to your implementation usually left pre flop, you should limp, l hope to restart. Looking to take advantage of this aggression, as the hyper-aggressive players see all limp as a form of weakness.

D on the other hand, shy players who see someone a limp d a s early position immediately imagine it has A - A or K - K. The correct perception lies somewhere in the middle. A limp pre flop usually signal a weakness, but a few times players limp with large hands and you should keep this option somewhere in your head. However, aggressive players do s bothers with this possibility. They are qu it will override the entire table and anyone who limped pre flop made the game just.

Therefore, when you limp/ restart, your objective is double. You want to trap him in this particular hand and you want to keep online for future pots (only if you do not just go out there). The last thing you want to c is a hyper aggressive player to your left which takes you to make difficult decisions with your semi-fortes hands throughout the tournament. A single limp/relance usually brings these players to be more cautious.

2. If you have a clue that someone behind you looked at his hand and qu it l appreciate, there are opportunities as he bets. Thus, you should limp and wait for the update. This is an extreme example, but I remember deeply tournament NHL $ 500 entry l d a few years ago. J had A - A in early position and j was ready to bet. But then, the player to the small carpet on my left went to carpet without any will turn to talk! Supposedly what he did not know that j still had cards. Actually, I think what he was attempting an action against me. He saw that j was ready to multiply the placing and wanted to get me out to allow it to push its rug.

So what is that j got? J gently threw money to call the big bet blind l, acting as if I n had no idea of this coming. In fact, a player l other side of the table s addressed me ' boy, you knew what he was going to carpet, then why you lose your money to call? '' J have kept a face without expression, but in the Interior, I laughed a little bit. I knew what he would soon get the foot in the mouth. After the player to my left went to carpet, a player in late position called then the big bet blind l drew. So, I went to carpet over the other two. The player in position late s is lying, while the big bet blind l called with a pair of eights. My ACEs held and this hand was a major reason why j have reached the final table. If, at the outset, I raise instead of limping, I do not believe that j would have one token except the big bet blind l. D one way as another, you have established your image beautifully for the rest of the time at the table.

Argument against the limpage

1. If you are at a passive table it n is not much chance that the action be relaunched behind you pre flop. Therefore, you should bet with your large pairs, rather than give updates l blind a free chance to beat you. You can still get the action depending on whether the table is tight aggressive or passive coward, but in one case as in the other, you want to take the initiative with the big hands against passive players. They won't bet your hand for you.

Rather, j said I could limp with big pairs in little stages of tournaments. Conversely, I do not believe that limping with A - A or K - K in steps put forward may be a good strategy. C is simply too obvious, too transparent. Presumablly, you played a strong poker to get to advanced stages and so n you not limping often. You typically bet or lying your hand. Then when you limp, it remains not unrecognizable, and opponents are likely to give you credit for the big pair you have. Instead, you must wager, as you l have done with your other big hands. C is the best chance d get action one more bad hand.

A final Consideration

Your level of skill after the flop should play a big part in your choice of strategies pre flop. To be honest with yourself. Are you confident in your ability to read hands, as if you knew generally what your opponent has? In this case, you can limp with A - A or K - K more often, because even if the action fails to upgrade pre flop, your post flop skills will be put to good use. More often as otherwise you will be capable of extracting money from your opponents when you have the best hand and fold your pair when you are beaten.

D another side, if you n are not confident in your post flop play, you really want not limping so often. When he n has no implementation pre flop, you can stay caught in a guessing game after the flop. When your opponent bets, is - it a draw? A pair? Something better? Bet pre flop assists you in these situations. It n there is nothing bad to admit that your game post flop to need improvement. I n have no problem to say that this description saw me. To a certain extent, c is why j always preferred bet pre flop, and occasionally limping with my big pairs. Maybe now I'll start limping a little more often. However, I do not think qu there will come a day where I always l one or the other. J always wanted to vary my game in other to avoid predictability without regard to the strategy that I prefer.

* Limp: English l "to limp": action d called the big set blind l (in poker).
